SportInspired have been working with Barking & Dagenham Council for 10 years, and in 2018 we were commissioned to deliver a programme called New Me to help tackle rising levels of childhood obesity in the borough.

New Me engages children and embeds active, healthy habits from a young age. We delivered five fun sessions on nutrition and physical activity to Year 4 pupils covering key topics such as 5-a-day,portion sizes, cooking techniques, energy balance, and making the important connection between good nutrition and physical activity.

Through homework tasks, we sent the same wellbeing messages home to parents and set up free after-school sports clubs as well as three family dodge ball clubs over the summer.

IMPROVING WELLBEING IN BARKING & DAGENHAM

"The children's attitude to healthy eating has changed and they are taking an interest in what they eat and drink. We are seeing healthier lunch boxes, better choices in the dinner line and even less waste as they appreciate what importance the food they eat has."
