On Wednesday 10th July 2019, Pentland Brands and SportInspired joined forces for the second “Pentland Community Games” in Sunderland at Houghton Sports and Wellness Centre. In a two-year partnership, Pentland Brands and SportInspired aim to combat inactivity across London, Sunderland, Nottingham and Blackburn.

The event was attended by over 200 children from five local primary schools including George Washington Academy, St. Leonard’s Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary, Newbottle Primary Academy, Gillias Lane Primary and St.Michael's Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary.

The primary school children were supported and guided by 25 Young Leaders from Castle View Enterprise Academy who developed key employability skills by leading the children. Over 30 Pentland Brands employees volunteered at the event to help inspire the children to find a sport they love, increase physical activity levels and improve mental wellbeing.

Every team had their own banner and the day was filled with loud cheers, chants and dances to try to win the huge Team Spirit trophy at the end of the day!

The children had a variety of different sports to experience including gymnastics, dance, karate, badminton, fencing and dodgeball.

Pentland Brands Volunteer Vicky stated:

"It was great to be involved with children at such a young age to get them enthused and to get them to see the different sides of sport... it’s not all about football and netball and it's just great to be part of that. I worked with kids that weren't very enthusiastic at the beginning but now they're screaming and shouting for their team and watching what true team spirit means."

Thank you, Pentland Brands, for your continued support and for getting involved on a personal level to make a difference in a way that is meaningful to the community.

We look forward to the upcoming Community Games in Blackburn and Nottingham in 2020!
